Credit Crisis Explained
Here is a really nice visualization explaining the credit crisis. It oversimplifies a few things, but for all your friends and family that keep asking you, "What the F***???", you can point them to this.

It's all about leverage, don't know how many times i ve tried to explain that and people looked at me funny, now i can point them to this! thanks Edmundo!
Very nice. Thanks.
Does anyone know what divisions of the investment banks are specifically responsible for securitizing the collateral debt obligations? Is it capital markets or structuring? Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Literally securitizing a CDO should be done by a structured/securitized products group.
I think this gives the layperson a good understanding of what happened. I really like the animations. I'll have to send this along to anyone that asks me.
Except for the fact that it implies that while the lay-person was making a minor mis-judgement by over extended themselves on their mortgage.... Wall street was reaping a 900% profit by leveraging up their books 99x.
Quite true. It does marginalize the role that homeowners played.
Haha this is pretty good. Comical too! Well done.
thanks for the link
It touches but does not expound on the role of the insurance companies that attempted to alleviate the fears of the CDOs defaulting by insuring them through CDS. It touches upon it, but I was quite surprised that it didn't have an animation at the end where everyone was calling the insurance company wanting them to cover their losses on the defaults and the insurance company did not have enough liquid assets on hand to cover all the claims (ala AIG).
Apart from that, it's a pretty good description.

Great explanation Edmundo...no matter how simple it is broken down, it still boggles my mind
This is pretty great. A video on what happens afterwards would be sweet too.
I think this is it:
great background music
Yeah, that $300,000 to $90,000 is no joke.
Here in Miami, condos that used to sell for over $700,000 now sell for about $115,000 (or less).
I agree with you. Its very clear to everyone about the issue. But the thing is who is responsible for it? and why the action is not taken who is waiting for the right action to take?
