Career Resources
Don't do REGAL unless you find REGAL actually interesting. I chose REGAL as my top choice in SA group placement because it was one of the strongest groups at my bank and I found it excruciatingly dull.
The Industrials groups at both CS and JEF are really strong, and you really can't go wrong with either of them. If you want to exit, I'd choose CS over JEF for the CS name brand. If you want to be a career banker, I'd choose JEF in a heartbeat (higher (all-cash) comp, more stable and growing platform, I've heard really good things about the seniors in Industrials putting effort in developing talent and promoting internally).
What do you think made it dull versus other coverage groups?
The Jeff cocksucking is getting out of hand
CS industrials is one of the best industry groups at CS, it's either them or tech.
Have heard Jeff industrials is a miserable sweatshop but this guy was an analyst 2 years ago
in terms of the “best” of these, it’s probably BofA REGL > CS > Jeff, but as someone above said REGL is much more niche. Industrials will expose you to a ton of different verticals and you’ll get decent tech crossover depending on how your firm deal shares across industries
CS Industrials is traditionally very strong and I haven't heard any horror stories, but they lost Svoronos and Wortendyke, two pretty big hitters in the group, recently, which may be of some concern if you're more focused on the medium-term picture and not looking to exit immediately.
JEF Industrials is also quite strong, especially in certain verticals (chemicals, packaging, transportation & logistics, ADG). The culture at JEF NY Industrials is tough. One of the global co-heads is from GS and I heard from a friend in the NY office that he brought the GS Industrials culture to Jefferies. I've heard great things about the cultures in the satellite Industrials offices (Richmond, CLT) though.
Just signed with one of the JEF satellite offices you mentioned and have the same impression... I ended up taking their offer over a BB in SF and a MM in NY. The people in the group really stood out from a culture perspective and I couldn't get myself to sacrifice that for prestige or location.
BofA REGL is the best REGL group on the street. Top megafund exits but tough culture
