declined credit card over 8 months ago - issues for background check?

I was declined a credit card because I applied for another one after being accepted for one around 2 weeks prior. I didn't know that you had to wait like 6 months in between to get another card. But on my credit score checking websites there is no longer any record of hard checks in the last 6 months and my credit score is "Excellent" (970 on Experian, 804 on ClearScore/Equafax). When I was filling out a background check for an accepted internship I pressed that I haven't been declined credit or loans in the past because it wasn't for bad credit or anything. Is this a discrepency when the bank does the background check or can they not see this? Can I just say that it was a mistake or something... Clearly my credit score etc., is very good and I have no problems with debt....

Any advice is warmly accepted.

Depends, if this is an EB you better pray your background check shows you had a declined credit card so they know for sure that you hate the lending of capital, whereas if this a BB you better cross your fingers it doesn't show up as they want all their employees to respect the honesty within the historic credit markets. Hope this helps, cheers!
