My guess is FIG, but then again, don't let the group brand you. You own your own future, and it's determined by what you make of it, not your labels.
In general, I find these questions show a lack of passion. I say fuck whatever people think of you and do what you think you can excel and are more passionate about.
Much more interested in healtcare versus banks, thrifts, insurance, etc. BUT prefer M&A to debt.
At the end of the day - this short-term, and I am interested in the platform that will help me reach my end goal of an M7 MBA followed by PE if possible. From what I've heard, both have narrower exit opps than traditional M&A coverage groups.
FIG for sure. In my bank, at least, DCM doesn't do anything related to PE. Meanwhile, FIG does their own M&A and runs deals. That is way more relevant than the skills you'll gain in DCM. Plenty of people move from FIG to the buyside each year, can't say the same about DCM. Again, this is what I've seen at my bank and am not sure if the same holds true across the street. Not so sure about MBA opportunities, but imagine it would be the same.
This is all bank specific. In my BB, the LevFin group (housed under DCM) kills it. They have a history of strong exits.
This question can't be answered with an umbrella answer, it depends on the bank.
Given the fact that I will quit after 2 years for Bschool, would it even matter whether I did DCM or FIG pre MBA? for PE recruiting
umm yes it matters greatly. you going to bschool PRIOR to zero PE experience is going to be your biggest obstacle. why would PE firms hire you post MBA when there are other graduates with PE experience PRE bschool? Don't do DCM, go to the group that does modeling that's more relevant to PE. But I recommend trying to go for PE before bschool (although doing that from FIG and DCM presents its own challenges).
I am already 2.5 years out of school. So I would have to do FIG for 2 years, try to break into PE.. Do that for 2 yrs, then bschool? Wouldn't you say someone with 6.5-7 yrs work Exp is a little much for bschool? I would be matriculating as a 30 year old.
depends on what your goal is. what is your overall goal? if it's PE, then going into bschool prior to PE experience, will make your goal harder to attain.
Overall goal is PE but I want to do Bschool too.
