Deloitte “Corporate Finance” Opinions

Hey guys,
I really randomly threw in an app to Deloitte’s investment banking division which they call “Corporate Finance”. I got a first round interview, and was wondering a couple things in advance of it -

1.) What is the general view on this program? Is it seen as an Investment Banking program, or is it Corporate Finance? Is deal flow good?

2.) General view on Deloitte IB on the Street? I know they’re seen more as Consulting but would imagine they could be fine for IB too…?

3.) How does it stack up to other BB’s that traditionally do Investment Banking?

4.) Anyone know what the interview process like? Is it the same as other Investment Banking interviews technical-wise, or is it Corporate Finance focused?

Hours are horrible and comp is really shitty. No lie, your base will be around 75-80k, and you'll make a bonus of around 15k (this might be overly generous) for working 70-90 hour weeks all year round. There are lots of threads on this site about corporate finance roles within the Big 4 filled with negative sentiment.

The only reason I would accept this role is if I really hated what I was doing now and wanted to have a shot at moving into a name-brand financial institution. 5-6 months into your stint at Deloitte you'll be able to lateral to a BB or any firm of your choosing as long as you interview decently.

The deloitte name hurts this group greatly, but they were founded by Hugh McColl and are "legit" compared to the other big 4. Had a way different connotation when they were McColl Partners and its a shame they didn't let them continue to operate under that name.

The above poster isn't wrong, they are definitely a LMM volume shop, but generally solid people and you'll get plenty of reps should you want to move on. I know two guys who did post-MBA stints with them who were sharp guys, but wanted to be in Charlotte and genuinely felt passionate about the smaller founder/owner businesses they got to work with. Unfortunately I have no insight into pay but thought they maybe a step below "street."

Deloitte CF places quite well in F500 corporate finance and in terms of F500 exits, you very well could end up at the same exit as an ex-IB BB analyst. Most of F500 is filled with ex-Deloitte and ex-Big 4 people anyways, so you'll very easily exit into these groups.

Where IB BB places substantially better is in the more classical banking exits (MM and MF PE and HFs).

Deal flow is very good, just take a look at league tables, Deloitte is up there.

Pay is street now and starts at $100k and bonuses are typically in line with street (last year being $70-80k)

Deal flow is high but it is in the LMM - MM range ($100mm-$1bn EV range). A lot of execution reps with lean deal teams so juniors get a “better experience”. With that being said, definitely a legit IB and straight M&A with 90% being sell side.

Would say at least half of every class goes to PE, albeit LMM / MM PE but nonetheless can exit to decent PE shops and senior bankers are encouraging of it.

Overall, not a bad place if you want to don’t want to be in NY and like the idea of working with founder / owner operated businesses.
