Diversity Programs in Theory vs. Practice

Ok hear me out. I am in no way trying to advocate for minimizing diversity hiring - in fact, I believe it is an extremely important factor in leveling the playing field and introducing fields in finance to underrepresented groups.

But, can we be real here? These programs hardly tackle the issue at hand. The majority of these programs aren't pulling in impoverished African-American/Latinx candidates, but rather white girls from Greenwich/Upper East Side/rich NY neighborhoods and kids lying about being LGBTQ. It is actually just so fucking unfair. As someone who literally identifies as one of these groups, I've only recently come out and figured out that there are a ton of kids who are abusing these programs to get the job they want.

I don't know how to feel about this, but if there is literally any hiring manager/HR representative out there who sees this - please address this and fix these programs. I see too many kids boasting about the way they get a job and it's just absolutely ridiculous. The rich white girl who's daddy was a millionaire should not be who these programs are targeted to - the black guy from the Bronx who had to work two jobs in high school just to keep the lights on should be. Just my two cents but happy to hear other perspectives.
