Do MM Banks start recruiting for summer at the same time as BBs?
Basically the title. Will MM firms (even the smaller players like Jeffries and all, not just Evercore, GHL, etc) start recruiting for people at the same time as the BB firms? What about boutiques? I believe (from my previous search) that boutiques typically hire on an "as needed" basis, but is there a time/pattern to their recruiting such as recruiting in particular months, or will I just have to keep checking in/cold emailing/cold calling them regularly to see if something can be worked out?
lol... funny u call jefferies "small" when its market cap is double of greenhill's and 5 times that of evercore's...
When I said small, I meant more in terms of how prestigious they are (as far as WSO has taught me). In retrospect, I should have chosen my words more carefully...
lol...
well, almost everything you see on WSO is wrong in so many aspects
Anyways, the reputable banks, whether they would be BBs, boutiques like evercore, MMs like jefferies all recruit at the same time.
and trust me, prestige is the last thing on your mind when you are working on a Sunday night like me...You are in banking, one of the hardest industry to get into. If you are able to get a job in any of the known banks, you are golden. Granted that you might not be going to KKR, but the experience will help you to go very far.
Good point
Not entirely true. I received an interview request from Raymond James in April when I went through SA recruitment. I also remember HW trying to contact me late, maybe like March.
Yes, but I do believe they do their major recruiting around Sep-Nov for FT and Dec - Feb for SA. Pretty sure of this but there will of course be some outliers if they don't find the right candidate
OK, well, I'll keep my eyes and ears open regardless, but I shall really start honing in on shit around December/January from what it sounds like.
I have another question: what's the best way to go about emailing/calling banks for internships, be it during the school year, winter break, or summer break? Is it best to be completely direct and just ask them if they can take me on (keep in mind, we're dealing with a non-North East area of the US, so finance positions are harder to come by), or is there a way to be subtle and backdoor one's way into asking after getting them more comfortable? Finally, do you think its worth it for a non-target to even apply to BB/elite boutiques online, or would I be better off applying to corporate positions in F500s? Unfortunately, while I have a good GPA (3.85+), I was really slow on getting on ECs, and since I have no banking experience and only accounting/IT work experience, getting into a BB is basically not going to happen. Therefore, I'm wondering if it would be better to instead divert attention to solid F500 companies and their financial groups or continue looking at boutiques instead of worrying about something that's a longshot anyway?
thanks again!
