Do most investment bankers lose their job as an analyst?

Do most investment bankers lose their job as an analyst? What are the other job oppurtunities that such analysts have after being made redundant? Is the turnover rate of analysts very high and is it the same around the world?

From what I understand, no, not unless you do some retarded s*** or get tired of it/change jobs. It's an analyst "class" after all.

^^^drstrangelove Correct me if i'm wrong, most analyst positions end after two years, and they go into other positions in PE/HF etc, very few are directly promoted to associate.

The typical path is 2 yr Analyst - > 2 yr Buy Side -> 2 yr MBA

Life, liberty, and the happiness of pursuit.

About 5% of analysts get directly promoted to associates. Out of the remaining 95%, the fates also differ. About 20% get lucky and go to good PE firms. About 25% go to shitty buyside firms (and/or other finance gigs) that pay less and/or have worse exit ops than banking. About 30% apply directly to business / law schools. The remaining 20% do a random collection of things ranging from non-profit work to corporate finance...

the_rainmakeractually thats the best part of investment banking cuz you get so much transferrable skillset to moveon to all kinds of things (bschool worst case) wheares s&t, am, back-office jobs are pigeonholed for life..

Haha, looking for errors in punctuation etc. will definitely help for all white-collar jobs. Just kidding :P

85% of analysts in the UK get promoted to associates after 3 years. 5% go to Bschool, 5% do other things and the other 5% go to the buyside.
