Do summer interns get a laptop or do they really need one?

Planning on applying for summers 2022 for IB, however, I've been using an old windows laptop and would really need a more reliable one. Thinking about the new m1 air. I'm aware that excel is terrible on mac and thus would practice that on university PCs. The problem is, what if they'd want me to work from home, obviously using a windows PC, and wouldn't loan me a laptop? Would be really sad if I'd have to buy a brand new one besides that air. Also, pros for the mac is that I could get amazing financing and discounts for that so it would be even cheaper than a similar windows laptop

Thanks guys!

I mean I understand that it's not for work but the pros of the current air compared to it's price are just phenomenal. My uni is full of these maxed out PCs anyway so I could use them to practice. I'm just kinda curious about other unknown drawbacks and whether IBs give laptops for interns or for FT roles. Will work this summer(some middle-office role) at Citi in my home country and they'll hand me one even though I'll probably be in the office most of the time.

If banks make you use your computer, they will give you a "virtual machine." Essentially, you will be using your computer as a portal to access a computer that exists on their server. Think of it as screen sharing with their computer (which is on a server). You can get a Mac and use the windows virtual machine they give you. I'd get a Mac. Apple laptops are just nicer to look at, last longer, and are less likely to get bogged down with random malware and BS apps. Get a Mac, practice excel on a school machine, and you will be fine for your maybe internship.
