If you’re an incoming SA, OP/others, thoughts on an LA IB SA groupchat?
I’m incoming FT but would be open for it
Could I get added to this as well?
Also gonna add, if you don’t need a car for work specifically you’re probably gonna want one just to live … gonna need a car to do anything eg go to the beach, downtown, hiking and relying on Uber is gonna add up
Heard from friends in the city / folks on this forum that you generally would want to have a car in LA, public transportation is ass and a lot of stuff is more spread out than other major cities. But my guess is you could get away with ubering/walking if you don't venture far out too much every week and stick to CC/BH/WeHo areas. It becomes a real bitch and rates will add up quick if you want to go to beaches other than SM or deeper to central LA.
If you live and work in CC or BH, then you don't need a car to get to work. Honestly, if you're just going to hang in the BH area too, you don't need a car. If you're leaving the office at night, there's no public transportation other than Uber, but if you live in the area, it's safe enough to walk no issue.
I spent a lot of time in LA without a car, and you only need one if you're going out of your area daily. You don't need one as an analyst who's spending 98% of his time in CC/BH. You can just uber out on the weekends.
If you're going to anywhere farther than Santa Monica more than a few times per week, then you may need a car.
Any recommendations for intern housing near the CC area?
10,000 Santa Monica bvld!!!!! Nah just kidding; I'm too poor for them. It's not a competition. Just look like you would for any other apt in any other city
Edit: Sorry I was super drunk when I wrote this. The real answer is that there will be a lot of cheap housing in the area as its near UCLA. Maybe they have an intern housing program similar to NYU?
Not having a car in LA is like not using the subway in NYC
I live in BH and work in CC which about 2 miles. So just outside of walkable distance if I had to wear business casual (takes about 30 minutes to walk).
I highly doubt you can find anything under $2k in CC (its mostly high rise apartments). BH is a little bit more affordable but under $2k will be tough, but I think $2,500 should be doable. I'd focus on the west side of BH to make the walking commute much easier. You'll also be able to walk to pretty much everything you need, bunch of shops/restaurants and a grocery store on S. Beverly. Obviously, you have Rodeo and that whole area for nice retail and upscale restaurants.
I don't know if there is that much to do in the way of night life except the restaurant bars (I've heard Wally's is fun) but ubering to WeHo is short.
Beverly Hills is only cheaper if you live south of Santa Monica; otherwise its way more.
Yes, well north of SM is the Flats so all single family homes - I don’t think you will find any apartments in that area.
Lived in LA my whole life. Not having a car is a shitty experience. It’s doable depending on where you live, but your ability to experience the city to the fullest is incredibly limited.
