Does being Hispanic help for getting placement?

I spoke to an analyst at P72 who helped me with my research project, I’m in high school, and he was trying to give me some guidance on which school to pick since I want to go into IB—>HF and he asked me if I am Hispanic, which I am. he said this help a lot but didn’t really specify, can any of you explain how this helps? thanks!

I’m Hispanic and I got an interview at gs IB. Didn’t network or went through any of those programs, and I go to a state school.

Yes; makes me think of someone I know who got a latino diversity scholarship to Darden for his MBA and then went into IB at a BB.
Pisses me off that he got to claim latino diversity even though he can't even speak Spanish and looks like Jimmy Kimmel.

Being a URM gives you an advantage in the sense that you're invited to various diversity events (so long as you're a high achiever on paper). As a URM myself, I think that they should take into consideration socioeconomic status. In these events, you'll come across a variety of students who were never at a disadvantage (parents are in the industry, well off, etc.) to begin with, but are simply there because they will be in a better position to receive an offer over other applicants (regular applicants, first gen students, etc.)

One thing that I want to note is that in finance and life in general, some of the best connections that you make are with those who you have similarities with. Whether its sports, school connections, or even race. Having something in common will help you foster a relationship and potentially get them to be invested in your professional development.

legally, thats not how it works and there's no way for the associate to actually tell the race of people who applied so that was just an excuse

The United States Census Bureau uses the ethnonyms "Hispanic or Latino" to refer to "a person of Cuban, Mexican, Puerto Rican, South or Central American, or other Spanish culture or origin regardless of race"
