Does speed of AN/ASO promotion cycle determine making it to D/MD?
Saw a lot of senior bankers on Linkedin who took longer-than-average to climb through ASO or VP (Saw 3.5 years ASO, 4 years VP, etc) and still made it to D/MD. I thought there would be a stronger correlation between not getting early or on-time promotes and being able to climb the ladder. Any thoughts?
Job is very different at the junior and senior levels. Senior bankers are ultimately selling advisory service and the juniors are doing the background analysis behind the advisory service. You could be really good at the analysis but terrible at the relationship buliding and industry coverage aspect, and vice-versa. Some of the biggest rainmakers at my top BB are the least technical people, but they are very knowledgeable about their industries and are the go-to-guy for a few large strategics in their sub-sectors.
