Dos and Donts for an incoming M&A intern at boutique IB firm

I’m happy to share I’ll be starting my internship in the M&A team with a lower middle-market IB in August.

What are the best on-the-job tips for someone like me? Specifically in terms of the skills I should be working on, best practices as an M&A intern, and how can I add value to the team overall at work. Sort of what are the Dos and Donts?

Any tips are highly appreciated!

Dos: Get coffee and lunch orders right

Don'ts: Sleep with your MD

First off, congrats on getting the opportunity.

My advice would be the basics:

1. Come off as friendly and approachable to the whole team (do not neglect even the office assistant)

2. Be willing to learn, always ask analysts/ associates if there is anything you could help out with

3. Read directions multiple times before asking for clarification (google is your friend)

4. Triple check your work before sending deliverables

I think brushing up on excel/ ppt practice could be helpful, but I view attitude as most important for interns.
