There have been a bunch of posts regarding Emory the last few months. I’m a recent grad that went straight to buy side. Emory places everywhere and all of the business school classes are curved so it’s not hard to have a solid GPA for recruiting. Additionally, the culture could not be less competitive which is really nice when everyone is grinding for interviews. I would recommend it to anyone.

Like a lot of semi targets, pretty much only diversity candidates get into the top BBs and EBs. If you’re aiming for lower-mid tier BB or MMs, Emory is more than enough

That has some truth to it but mainly for top BBs even then there are non-diversity that do place into them. However, multiple non-diversity place into EBs and PE.

This just isn’t true. A number of non-diversity candidates have gotten offers at top BBs in the last few years.

I’m not sure who’s downvoting all of these but clearly you don’t/didn’t go to Emory.

It has strong placement that has gotten even stronger and places lights out in the south. It places into all BBs/EBs/MMs and these days multiple place into PE/AM out of undergrad. Pretty much everyone who wants IB gets it because there's not that much competition and the school is ranked  high(T20ish) so has respect. Consulting is even stronger due to the presence of MBB and other T2s in Atlanta.

Student here. Emory has strong placement for a semi-target.

If you want banking or buy side opportunities you can definitely do it. It just comes down to the individual. It’s been rare that I’ve had the institution prevent me from getting interviews just because it’s not a target.

Yeah its kinda like the semi-target that has high prestige but is semi due to location, amount of interest, size  kind of like Hopkins, Vanderbilt, WashU all of which are prestigious but are semis because of those factors. However while some firms may not target them while recruiting, they will hold them in high regard and will give out interviews. Although Vandy and Emory have a lot of recruitment and are somewhat better than WashU and Hopkins.

I've worked at a BB and several PE firms over the years and can confirm that I've seen Emory alum all over the place.

During my time at Emory I've known people who've placed into every EB this year even Evercore and Moelis. We have a consistent pipeline into Centerview, Lazard, PWP, Rothschild, Greenhill, Gugg. BB recruitment has picked up quite a bit and MS and JPM have grown along with the usual consistent pipeline into BOA, Citi, CS , and UBS and people every year go into all of the BBs. Blackrock takes a lot of kids from Emory and multiple kids every year break into PE out of undergrad. Along with this every top MM(HL, William Blair, Jefferies, RBC, HSBC) and southern bank heavily recruit. Specialized groups like HLRX and SVB Leerlink(healthcare) always take kids. MBB recruitment also picked up massively this year with Mckinsey(we recently became a target for Mckinsey) and BCG taking way more than usual.

There’s an MD Rick Rieder that’s an Emory alum and I believe he comes to campus every year. He’s created a strong pipeline if your interested in AM.

Agree with posters above in that you'll see kids going everywhere (CVP/EVR/MS/JPM/MFPE/HLRX). Just note that while Emory places into these spots, the kids are geniuses and the average run-of-the-mill kid with a 3.8 and student investment group (GIMG) isn't going to be waltzing into these top positions. If you are not extremely hard working or high intelligence or connected, it is highly improbable (<2%) that you'll be getting a top position. This also applies for all schools- it's just that kids at HYPSM & W are more likely to have the "above and beyond" qualities that got them into that school in the first place. If you chose Emory over Ivy League (e.g., for financial or location reasons), then you're clearly at the crème-de-la-crop and will have the genetic and historical records of excelling in all facets of life and won't struggle with recruiting. The run of the mill Joe who works hard, 3.8 GPA, Finance Club, 1 Finance Internship will certainly get looks and offers, but just not at the top shops that are aforementioned. Just saying this to have realistic expectations for any kid who's considering or attending semi-target schools like Emory.
