Engineering...is it worth it or not?

Well I have noticed that many investment bankers have an engineering background. I myself am pursuing engineering and engineering major, as well as an economics one. Since IBs like to see "quantitative skills" in their applicants, few things can beat a math-heavy discipline like engineering, right?

Well, my question is this: engineering is obviously a pretty heavy strain on the brain power and really time consuming to stay on top of. Most likely, my GPA will be at leaset somewhat higher if I dropped it and just focused on Econ (which I so far find ridiculously easy.) So, does having a degree in engineering and econ look a lot more impressive to HR people than just a mere econ degree? Is an engineering degree a way to show them that you're no dummy and that you can handle whatever they'll throw at you? And what would look better, an overall GPA of say 3.5 with both engineering and econ or a GPA of say 3.8 with just econ? Is it worth it, is pretty much what I'm asking.
