Equities Experience in transition to IBD

So I am going to do my best to sum this up short, please bear with me.

My financial operations all begin when I was hired at a boutique market making firm in Southern California (specializes in HNW individuals and a few institutional clients), where I was the traditional intern (coffee, administrative tasks, clerical work). Since I was blessed with this opportunity, I never looked back or decided to complain and really put my nose to the grindstone (reflecting back it was the greatest decision I made at the time of an immature 17yr old). After the summer, I was rewarded with the option of seasonality which I took without thinking twice about. For the next 3 years my level of responsibility rose significantly where I was now responsible for new account documents, TA calls, client/broker specific relations, and felt a bit of significance.

Now, fast forward to today. I am at a non-target school in CA and am networking with possible BB and MM banks at a shot in IBD. At what percentage do these banks hire summer analysts and what percentage do ad-hoc style employees join the roles? Is IBD analyst pursuance best if you were once a summer analyst? Would you recommend since I have a small amount of financial operational experience to pursue investment management or wealth management?

I am having trouble narrowing down my options and pairing them with my strengths, any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all for your time and consideration
