Equity Research Clubs for IB recruiting - Thoughts?
I saw a post a couple of days ago about Consortium Equity Research, but I know there are more clubs like it out there. I don't get why clubs like these place so well into IB. Are the skills really that transferable from ER to IB? I feel like these days, everyone who places well is in their school's top club and doing some random shit like this as well. Is it just resume fluff? I'm just not seeing the value here.
Wtf do you mean random shit. A club doing research on stocks is very relevant for any finance pursuing undergrad's resume. Not only that but the top clubs that place consistently would have a good alumni base. Not sure if coping that you didn't get in.
I haven't applied yet, I'm an incoming sophomore.
I get that it shows interest but what skills are actually transferable to a finance job outside of HF/ER? I see everyone going into banking.
You do realize you build models in those clubs. And you get a network and develop networking skills which is the common skill across not just finance but all areas of life. What do you want to do, for there to be an IB club that you "advise" SMBs on as a student?
I guess that makes sense. Something like mergersight seems the most transferable but ig i get it
