experience vs top school

I go to Northeastern university, and those who are unfamiliar with it we go through three 6 month periods where we work full time for a company of our choice, its called CO-op. Also I have read on numerous occasions that a lot of the major ibanks don't even consider you seriously if you didnt go through a top tier Ivey school. So I was wondering what is more important to corporations, the name of the school or up to a year and a half of full time work experience that goes well beyond just internships? thank you

Now I'm not exactly sure where or what this Northeastern University may be but it definitely sounds like you are in for a difficult journey to the promised land.

Just get a lot of work experience and remember to bootstrap it.

ever recruits at northeastern

school is much more imp cuz it proves u are smart

your best bet is to company alumni from your school who work at banks and try to get interviews through them

you also have to consider the fact that people from ivys and targets also get internships, so work experience by itself, especially if it is in an unrelated field, is not enough to beat kids from targets

When I say Coop I dont mean standard internships companies like Goldman hire coop students, even if i work for them or company like goldman am i still at that big of a disadvantage

It doesn't matter co-op or internship. Most people will have several summers worth of internship experience, and that will be full-time summers. You will not have an advantage over people with similar experience and better/target school. On the other hand, if you worked at goldman and somebody else at an ivy has experience at JPM, then clearly you take the advantage not because of your school or because of the difference between co-op and internship but because of the prestige of your co-op employer.

i mean from what ive heard the school is pretty damn important. i'm an underdog as it is goin to wesleyan (no big deal), but clearly you are at a disadvantage far greater than mine due simply to the school. for all i know you're a better worker and a smarter person than i am, and experience is everything. the problem is, the best experience internshipwise USUALLY goes along with those that do go to the best schools. i'm rootin for you tho, like the Sox when they were down 3 games to the yanks and the patriots first superbowl win with brady, i am a fan of the underdog.
