Feedback Needed

Hi all,

i kindly request the WSO community for help here. I am a first year at an EB coming from a mega non-target, this matters because I was given an opportunity and I cannot mess up/be bad.

i stay up every night till 2AM, i respond to everything within minutes, accept every staffing, always have a great attitude.

received feedback from staffer people are happy and work product is great. I got removed from double analyst staffing and I am solo on everything within a month.

HOWEVER, there is a but.

one of my associates took me out and says i spam too much on teams. I.e we work on projects and I will send a screenshot of my progress and say: hey just checking in if this is the right direction let me know.

i also always reach out and say let me know if you need any help i am here

Another thing they told me is that there is no need to reply “confirming, noted etc” to every single email/teams.

but isnt that what im supposed to do? I am acknowledging i received your message and will begin working on it

What am i missing here?

please help thank you

Hey there,

First off, kudos to you for your dedication and hard work. It's clear you're committed to doing your best, and that's commendable.

Now, let's address your concerns. It seems like you're doing a lot right, but there might be a few areas where you could tweak your approach:

  1. Over-communication: While it's important to keep your team updated, there's a fine line between being communicative and being overly communicative. If you're constantly sending updates, it might come across as if you're unsure of your work or need constant validation. Instead, try to trust your skills and only reach out when you're genuinely stuck or need feedback.

  2. Offering help: It's great that you're willing to lend a hand, but make sure it doesn't come across as if you're trying too hard or have too much free time. Remember, everyone's busy, and your eagerness to help might unintentionally make others feel pressured.

  3. Acknowledging messages: While it's good to acknowledge important messages, not every single email or Teams message requires a response. If the message is informational or doesn't require any action from you, it's okay to not reply.

Remember, every workplace has its own culture and communication style. It sounds like you're doing a great job overall, so don't let this minor feedback discourage you. Keep up the good work, and don't hesitate to ask for clarification if you're unsure about something. You've got this!

I also tend to confirm receiving emails/messages. I’ve heard of VPs/Associates complaining about juniors not responding, but have never heard of over-responding issues.

I would suggest keep doing what you’re doing but just exclude the associate (and maybe also the rest of that deal team?).

PS - the associate should go pound sand if they think this is a material issue
