From BB to regional Boutique

Why does no one here talk about an exit from a bigger Firm (BB/EB and top MM firms) to a regional boutique? I did an internship at a regional boutique after my first year and the VP actually used to work at a BB (Analyst/Associate).

At the regional boutique, he often worked only until 6 pm, never later than 10 pm and no weekends! Sure, he told me made a good chunk below street (30%), but he's now living in an average priced city and works ~60 hours or less. Furthermore, he told me that PE pay at many MM/LMM shops (places where you work less than 60hours) isn't that great until you get carry (IF the fund performs). Therefore pay is really similar.
