From Corporate M&A to IB?

Is it possible to move from a Corporate M&A/Business Strategy role to IB in Europe? I’m currently working at a large European industrial (top 100 by Marketcap) firm with significant M&A activity and more to come in the next two to three years (I won’t be too specific, as anyone with industry knowledge could guess it). I don’t have extensive experience, but I landed this manager position because I did an exceptional job during my internship here a few years ago, where I took on a large cross-border deal origination almost single-handedly. Since then, my boss has consistently tried to hire me, but I was too focused on pursuing IB. Long story short, he offered me the manager position, which I accepted, but I want to understand my potential exit opportunities better to have more bargaining power in future negotiations (I feel like I might be leaving money on the table and plan to renegotiate later). Aside from this, I also have some experience in FDD (ranging from add-ons to €1B transactions) and LMM sell-side M&A — nothing extraordinary, but relevant nonetheless. Is it realistic to transition into (real) IB within the next two to three years, or are those doors closed forever? I come from target universities, though I assume that will become less relevant with time.
