Full time IB/Master Program

Hey guys,
I worked as a summer analyst at a pretty decent MM bank's renewable energy group this past summer. However, I am an international student, and my bank stopped sponsoring international workers this year. So I am currently recruiting for 2025 FT and 2025 SA position (deferring graduation date).

However, if I don't get anything, I will have to go to master school. I have a 338 on the GRE and 750 on the GMAT, so I do believe I have a chance to break into a target school and program. But I am wondering if I still have a chance to break into IB from Grad school and start from the analyst program.

Thank you!!

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some insights for your situation:

  1. Recruiting for Full-Time and Summer Analyst Positions:

    • It's great that you have experience as a summer analyst at a reputable MM bank. Continue leveraging that experience while networking and applying for 2025 FT and SA positions.
    • Networking is crucial. Reach out to alumni, attend industry events, and connect with professionals on LinkedIn to increase your chances.
  2. Considering a Master's Program:

    • Your GRE score of 338 and GMAT score of 750 are impressive and should make you a competitive candidate for top-tier master's programs.
    • Many users have shared that breaking into IB from a master's program is possible, especially if you attend a target school. Focus on programs with strong finance and IB placement records.
  3. Breaking into IB from Grad School:

    • While some users have noted that banks primarily recruit analysts from undergrad and associates from MBA programs, there are still opportunities for master's students.
    • Ensure that the master's program you choose has a strong career services department and a good track record of placing students in IB roles.
    • Continue to build your network and gain relevant experience through internships or part-time roles during your master's program.
  4. Starting from the Analyst Program:

    • It is possible to start from the analyst program after completing a master's degree, especially if you can demonstrate relevant skills and experience.
    • Highlight your previous internship experience, strong academic performance, and any additional skills or certifications you acquire during your master's program.

In summary, while the path may be challenging, your strong test scores and previous internship experience position you well for both full-time and summer analyst roles, as well as for breaking into IB from a master's program. Keep networking, applying, and leveraging all available resources to maximize your chances.
