Full Time Mobility - BofA

Will be interning at BofA in a non-NYC city in IB. My family is all moving to east coast and have extended family in NYC so interested in being near them for full-time. Is it hard to move from non-NYC SA to NYC FT at Bank of America? Are they receptive to things like this or should I just stay in my group which I do like and then look to lateral down the road? Any insight would be appreciated!

I interned at BofA in a regional office last summer. I tried to go through the formal mobility process @ the end of the summer but it was super random, they said they could place me in NYC but group would be whatever had space. I ended up just going to a different firm. However, I know of people who interned at regional offices and networked with BofA NYC groups over the summer to get contingent offers (essentially like “if you get a return offer at your regional office, you have an offer to come to this group in NYC”) and ended up going to those specific groups. That would be the way to go in my opinion if you want to have guaranteed group placement in New York.

Thanks for sharing - incredibly insightful! Couple questions:

1) is BAML non-NYC -> other NYC IB difficult if you come from good school?

2) is BAML okay with networking with NYC office if I’m in non-NYC? Or is it looked down upon?

3) how formal is mobility process? Do you just submit name and groups and get placed?
Thank you so much for the info!
