GCA Advisors in 2020?
Any insight on this boutique? I am curious about their reputation, pay, dealflow, and their exits. Can analysts exit to MM PE shops or do analysts typically lateral?

its the og frat house. Exits limited to growth / vc (which imo is cooler than buyout)
Whole lot of college athletes
Sweatshop: 90-100 hours/week
not a great rep, but not terrible either. We’ve worked with them at my bank. I know they have decent dealflow & a restructuring practice. Wouldn’t guess exits are plentiful - probably the same as any other lower MM if you’re in a metro office
Are you thinking of GLC Advisors? I didn't know GCA did restructuring.

Good reputation within tech
How would GCA compare to middle-market firms like Raymond James, Stephens and Stifel?
Definitely way better than them for tech. Raymond James tech is surprisingly good though.
Tons of idiots...
What makes you say that
Regional experience with HR...really unprofessional (speaking about Nordics). Reputation is quite ok but not top players within the company.
Would FTP be better than GCA?
GCA has a broader tech exposure and prob better exits but don't quote me

Just curious was this NY or SF?
Were you able to network with bankers or did the email that you send get blocked immediately?

i never heard back after my first-round interview
when was it
superdays were last week
was it SA or FT? would you mind providing some insight into the types of questions you were asked? I've heard the interviews are very technical
Good exits to VC
Heard they already gave out 3 offers for SF. Not sure about NY
Solid MM presence. Have been fine to work with for certain tuck-in deal processes though we've never gone to 2nd round dili with them
Strong deal flow, but a big portion (> 1/3) of that is cross-border deals with Asia. Positive/negative depending on what you’re looking for. Also, analysts get worked to the bone, 3 year analyst program, limited exit ops. Good firm, but much better options out there.
what about lateral ops
Not impossible I guess. GCA does have some recognition, but only among tech coverage groups in the West Coast. You might be able to spin the small tech deals into something sexy, but it's much more difficult to lateral out of GCA compared to a stronger firm like FT Partners IMO. Senior bankers at GCA place a high emphasis on firm loyalty (i.e. they want analysts to stay on the partner track) so you'll have to do lateral recruiting in secret. Not sure how you can manage that with the 80-90 hr work weeks. Considering all these factors, the cards will be really stacked against you if you're ultimately looking to lateral to a BB or EB.
Bump, anyone with superdays last week hear back?
do you know the NY process?
would you mind touching on your interview experience at all? I have a first round for ft 2021 coming up and heard they're very technical
I think all technicals are based off the BIWS guide, so just review the Basic and Advanced sections
are they still hiring for IB SA?
