I was around 24 when I broke into banking as an unpaid intern at a small boutique. Interned for 4 months and got full time afterwards. My background was a little abnormal where I graduated as a 24 year old from a non-target.

All to say that, no, 24 is not too old. To be honest though, if you have a partner, just know the hours will make it difficult to truly spend time together or make it possible to start a family within 3-5 years (even as an associate you can get crushed). It is for this reason companies will hire the 22 year old before the 24 year old, but there is something to be said about the 24 year old's work experience and potentially heightened maturity levels that make them a more attractive candidate.

Long story short, I would pursue the IB path but just know it will be tough to juggle a relationship or social life.
