Goldman Sachs IB Summer Analyst GPA Discrepency
I lied about my GPA on my resume. I am fully aware how messed up and unethical this is, so please save it the guilt is eating me alive.
I think I never expected to actually get the job (and I'm also bIpolar and it didn't even register at the time that this is something I absolutely cannot do). But I rounded up basically .13 points up which isn't even good.
I got an email to start my background check process and the first thing I had to do was upload my transcript, which says my real GPA. I uploaded it because at this point there is nothing I can do. So basically they now have the information they need to come to the conclusion the GPA on my resume is different than my transcript.
Does anyone have ANY information on whether I will get my offer rescinded or not? I have scoured the internet and can't find a concrete answer anywhere. If this has happened to anyone, or someone you know, please let me know. My anxiety about this is all-consuming; I haven't taken a deep breath in months.
Further, if they did rescind my offer, is there any world in which I could say it was a mistake? Someone please let me know if you have any insight. Again I know this is what I deserve for lying in the first place please don't remind me of it if you have nothing else to say.
Just submit your real transcript and hope they don't notice. Would be even worse to get caught lying and doctoring a transcript.
I’ve told the story many times about how I had a 2.3 in undergrad and straight up lied on my resume I got a 3.7 lol.
I also uploaded my transcript back then when I first joined.
My thought process was that I would never ever be hired by listing my real gpa so what did I have to lose. And I also figured what loser in HR would look at the gpa on my official transcript and then look at the resume I used and try to match up the gpas for every first year hire. I bet they just wanted to make sure I graduated from the top college I went to, and stop there.
If you’re really that worried, just upload a fake transcript.
But a 0.13 difference? Who’s gonna give a damn about that?
A .13 discrepancy is easily explained by so many things. Took a couple hard classes the semester you applied… then got B’s or C’s in them at the end by the end of the semester?
I would go this route, do not upload a fake transcript. Upload the actual transcript you have. A .13 can be explained by just saying you forgot to update your GPA after last semester etc. They probs won't look back to check if thats true or not cause its a whole 0.13 difference, theyll just take ur word
Pretty sure they cross check themselves with the schools so wouldnt photoshop anything
definitely not true
If they do flag it, the best thing you can do is own up to it honestly. Tell them you made a mistake, not out of deception, but carelessness under pressure. You'll look far better admitting it than waiting for them to call it out
have you heard anything from Sterling or GS yet?
yes they sent it to me like a wk ago
like heard back after you submitted the info
good luck
just be honest if your hear anything
.13 is nothing especially with how early recruiting is. Kept my 3.95 till sophomore fall for recruiting and dropped to a 3.7 as a current senior. No one cares as long as it’s not atrocious. My friend had a 2.6 and saying they were 3.8’s, they’re currently employed at a BB.
Your friend claimed 3.8 while 2.6 during recruiting; did he/she significantly increase his/her GPA later, and what was his/her graduation grade? Just curious.
No lmfao, also this was for FT recruiting
Not condoning doctoring the document, though if you did, you also have the right under FERPA to mark non-directory student information as confidential which means anyone, including your school's staff, has to contact you directly in order to release such information.
