Goldman Sachs Summer Analyst IBD - Interview Round 1

I just received an email that I will move on to round 1 of interviews, and I'm worried about technicals. I think a lot of people were when they were in my shoes. What does Goldman expect a college sophomore to know? We were all in high school a year ago!

I need help knowing what to technicals to contribute most of my efforts to and what the best guides are. Your help is appreciated !

Hirevue!

My plan was to apply to a bunch of banks/applications (reason is my GPA is 3.1, failed a class due to family emergency) and THEN start studying. I should've studied and applied at the same time, and i have until Jan. 17th to do my hirevue...

Also, this may be an ego thing, but with a GPA of 3.1, I figured they must've given everyone a first round, but i just received an email from JP morgan that they are not moving on with my application, so maybe GS is giving me a chance even though i have a 3.1.

Not sure u have a chance tbh, in IB job descriptions the typical requirement is greater than or equal to 3.5

Right, I'm going to hedge against my GPA and apply to smaller IB firms, less known, less prestigious ones. BUT, i did get GS to move forward with my application for round 1 hirevue, so i'll have to tackle whats in front of me and study technicals within the three days i have. But, any suggestions on what to focus on and what not to spend to much time with?

I have the Breaking into Wallstreet MI guide.

Thank you, i'm grinding now, I have a pretty basic/advanced (under the guide, so not advanced advanced) understanding of the three statements, btw, Stout and JP Morgan said they'll not move on with my app, but GS said i've moved on to round 1. Any idea why? I've done no networking, and my GPA is 3.1, and I applied to all apps like 4 days ago.

So far, I think it may have something to do with stricter GPA requirements at banks, or i missed the pipeline of rolling admissions, but IDK!

Focus on the core fundamentals especially accounting and valuation and try to understand the concepts, not just memorize the answers. Read BIWS or Street of Wall blogs for helpful tips. And then keep practicing A LOT until it becomes repetitive. Use products like IB Vine or the FinprepAI app. FinprepAI is good because even if you don't know the answer to a question, it will explain what you should do to improve. Goodluck!

Thank you, I've been told by many folks that the GPA requirement is pretty strict. Since I'm at a 3.1, I think GS hirevue was an automatic email. I'm still going to apply to other bulge brackets, but I'm going to focus on smaller regional banks. (I have 3.8 and 4.0 GPA on subsequent semesters at Princeton, I just had a family emergency Freshman year that resulted in an F in one of my classes.)
