Goldman Sachs VS Accenture

One of my friends was choosing between an offer from Goldman Sachs in their HR department, and offer from Accenture in IT consulting department.

I told her to choose Accenture, unless she really wanted to become a HR professional long-term. However, she ended up taking the GS HR offer. She told me that since she was interested in finance, and because she didn't like IT work, she was better suited for GS. But, since she's working for HR department, I am not sure if she will get to do any finance work anyway.

Also, she mentioned that "It's more impressive to your future employers and MBA programs if you say you worked for Goldman, not Accenture".

I think she made a terrible choice. What do you guys think?

IRSPBOn first glance it's a terrible decision. But if she can get into a T-15 MBA, she can obviously use her connections at GS to come back in banking.

I think this was her rationale. And the fact that she didn't want to do IT-related work because she thought it would be boring.

But, can you actually crack a top 10 MBA with work experience in HR department? I'd probably say no...

In her essays if she says she wants to do GS IBD she is probably going to get dinged. But if she says she wants to work for Mercer Management Consulting or Deloitte Human Capital etc, then she probably has a chance. After all a whole 10%-15% of a class falls into "other" category (apart from bankers, consultants, engineers). And once admitted to a T-15 she can do whatever she wants.

MatthiasYou guys are thinking about this from a business perspective, when in fact it may be a personal one. HR is a target for being a banking wife; her exit opps from Goldman HR are marriage, not an M7 business school.

Ouch. Brutal, but probably true.

How hot is she?

Haha, things won't work out this way most likely. How many times do I-bankers actually get to marry HR ladies at their firms?

If a girl goes into HR of I-bank hoping to get a banker husband, I don't think it is the best strategy there is
