Got a summons for jury duty during a rotational analyst program at an investment bank. What should I do?

I am selected to be interviewed as a potential juror. Should I postpone as much as possible? If I actually end up being selected, my career will likely take a hit. Not to mention, I am being paid by the hour while I am in this investment banking rotational analyst program

In my experience (and others I’ve heard) it’s very easy to get out of jury duty, so it shouldn’t be a problem at all. Take the day off to go to the initial session and do your best to communicate that you have a very demanding job. When I was summoned, they straight up asked me if I wanted to do it or not. If you end up getting selected (again, very unlikely unless you want to be) whether you want to or not, your job will understand

Don’t let any of these other commenters have you fooled - your job is well and truly on the line. If you have to spend more than one hour fulfilling your “legal duty as an American citizen” you will rightfully be blackballed from the entire industry and never work another day in finance ever again.

The solution is simple. Watch Curb Your Enthusiasm Season 4 Ep. 6 and take notes at what Larry David does. If you 1) do exactly what he does and 2) tell your MD what you do then you are in the clear. This is the only option towards maintaining your job, so please don’t fumble it.
