Got put on probation and will be let go, now what?

Found out I’m probably being out on probation and should start looking for a new job. My associate was telling me banking may not be for me and that there’s other jobs out there that pay the same. I have a lot of anxiety right now and have no idea what to do. I moved to NY for this and am under lease. What should I do? What jobs should i look for?

How long have you been on the desk? And have you only been one deal? I wouldn't make a rash decision just because you had a bad experience with one deal team. Maybe they were bad, jerks, etc. Should seriously think about giving the job another chance, at least with another firm.

Any thoughts as to why they may have said that and could they possibly be right?

Banking really isn’t for everyone.

It sounds like they are trying to signal that you will be canned - they often do this to encourage people to find a new job instead of having to pay severance and do all that admin work of canning someone.  Time to network and apply like crazy - don't get picky, you can sort through the interviews later.  I don't mean apply to Tobin but cast a wider net than you would do otherwise.
