That's pretty unprofessional and reflects poorly on her. Don't take it too hard OP. Self-reflect on the particular issues she had with your work product and improve on them but don't let this affect your self-worth bro. You've got this

I've been shit on before a few times yeah, all it really did was piss me off and make me want to not fuck up again, hunker down, triple check your shit, learn and move on. I was pretty fucking bad about little nits and details in decks the first few months I started, so they kicks in the ass have helped me improve. Use it as fuel and don't crawl into a shell, own up to the mistake and just fix it and nobody will give a shit the next day. I've learned to not let any of this shit get to you personally, learn how to provide good work to the best of your ability and if you get shit on here and there, who gives a fuck, pick yourself up say it'll be fixed and learn from it. I'm a 22 year old dipshit making 140k, knowing this I can take a little shit from my fuck ups, I don't give a fuck.  Its a high pressure job alot of the times but you can't let it consume your life and psyche. Not sure how many feel my sentiments but its seemed to work for me so far.

If a superior yells/screams at you, it is much more of a reflection of them than a reflection of you.

That's just my opinion, I can't imagine yelling at someone below me for making a mistake in a pitch book or really any work product - mistakes happen and yelling almost always has a negative effect on the person it is being inflicted on.

I've had a few MD's yell before - in my opinion, it was clearly 1 of 2 things: They have a huge superiority complex (tons of people in this industry do), or they are really insecure about their ability to manage and put together a good work product and take it out on their analysts/associates.

I always walked away from those situations having significantly less respect for those individuals, and honestly caring less about the work product I delivered them. To each their own though - some people get motivated by that, I do not.

Was this directed at your work or at you as a person?

Huge difference IMO. If directed at work, suck it up and forget it. It happens. It's a high pressure and we all have a bad day at some point.

If directed to you as a person i.e. actively insulting you, don't forget it. Clearly state that this is not correct and extremely unprofessional but never EVER yell/insult back. You win if you don't get angry because she has to apologize. If she doesn't apologize, look for a different group/exit. Wouldn't want to work with someone like that.

There is no reason to raise your voice and scream at a junior colleague or any colleague for that matter. This is banking, not war. If someone continues to fuck up just let them go. If it’s their first time, use it as a teaching lesson and treat them how you would want to be treated. Don’t be an asshole and don’t put up with assholes. I had a nightmare MD at my first bank. I made a lateral move at the 1.5 year mark and couldn’t be happier.

Yes. As a 37 year old director, my MD would constantly yell at me. He would tell me things like “you’re a fucking child,” “nobody likes you,” etc. he was the worst person I ever worked for, in an industry that is notorious for bad people to work for.

It was particularly galling because I left a top tier firm, took a drop in title, and a 40% drop in salary to join him because I wanted to make a shift in industry focus.
