Hedge Fund vs. Trading?

Hey guys,

I'm starting full-time in banking this summer but haven't received my group placement yet. I'm trying to decide between going into a markets type role (a group that deals with FX hedging, rates hedging, DCM, etc.) to try to transition into trading or to go into lev fin/restructuring/coverage to try to move to a hedge fund after banking.

Any thoughts on what kind of person likes which and how I should go about making this kind of decision? Banking seems more versatile but also more hours when you're not in a markets-based group.

Finally, any ideas on how easy it is to transition from FX hedging-->FX trading (for example)?

Talk soon, Mario

I mean, at a lotta banks I know of there's a separate banking group that helps companies hedge their exposures to FX. So if they get paid in Euros but are based in the US, they'll hedge against the euro depreciating against the dollar. They aren't making markets for futures or anything, just helping companies stabilize their cash flows...

So this group is within IBD aka a group I could join...
