Dartmouth it's not even close

Think of recruiting in this industry as "these employers set aside X seats from Y target schools." Target schools won't be 100% of a hiring class, but it will be majority and the path of least resistance.Dartmouth is considered a target most everywhere, UNC is not as consistently. Morehead-Cain will help your son be at the top of the pile within UNC kids, but probably not very much beyond that.

If you don't think he'd be happy at Dartmouth, don't force it -- being in a good enough mental state to get good grades / internships in the first place is half the battle, and UNC is still a great school. But if they're equal and this variable is the "tiebreak," it's clearly Dartmouth.

Dartmouth grad here. if he is serious about his career in finance obvious choice. Got amazing experience for internships from Dartmouth alums- worked at a top shop in IB from networking, moved over to the buyside to what many consider top PE via alumni connections. Ask your son to look up Dartmouth alums in finance.

Off the top of my head, you have Steve Mandel Lone Pine, Todd Sisitsky + James Coulter Founder of TPG, Leon Black Founder of Apollo, Hank Paulson CEO of Goldman, William Conway Founder Carlyle, Timothy Geithner CEO Warburg Pincus. Bunch of names in venture capital too that I can't remember since there are too many haha.

For college experience, Dartmouth has an incredible experience for undergrads.

Can also throw in my hat on Dartmouth. Much more common name on the street from what I have seen. The only UNC guy I can remember did that undergrad and then had to get an MBA from HBS before getting a job at GS which launched his IB career.

Good luck

Dartmouth but make sure he gets into the right fraternities & clubs, as some dartmouth alumni recruit directly from their fraternities from what I've heard. Would appreciate some fellow monkeys to give me feedback

Why the fuck would he consider UNC over Dartmouth? Stupid question

Dartmouth is a tier above.  And I say that as someone who is very pro-UNC.  I have family that graduated from Chapel Hill and in most comparisons of UNC vs. other similar-tier schools (i.e. the very best state schools as well as private schools outside the top ~10-15) I'd favor UNC.

But Dartmouth is in the highest tier of schools where if you have a high GPA you'll get an IB job.  UNC is more like, high GPA gives you a very good shot but some unlucky folks will miss out.

I also think undergrad b-school culture is a bit less ideal than going to a traditional college and studying somehting relevant to business (Econ or International Relations or whatever).  I think its better from the standpoint of personal development to have a traditional college major as part of a broader college, being more around different kinds of people, than to be separated into the "business kids".  This point isn't huge but another reason to favor Dartmouth.

If the money difference is meaningful enough to family finances, then it can be UNC.  But Dartmouth will deliver some additional value.

I'll play devils advocate and say UNC - Chapel Hi.....

Is what an idiot would say, send the boy to Dartmouth, congrats on getting him into an Ivy.

One benefit of UNC (apart from the free ride ofc which is insane) is that he's automatically in the top 1% of 1% of tarheels (who r already smart af), so he'll have it very easy getting into the top clubs which can send him into pipelines to all the top banks like JPM. Whereas at Dartmouth, he's just another name in the crowd - idk why this post is so biased towards the Ivy.
