Help: Reneging an Offer

Question

Hey all,

As the title suggests, I need some advice on reneging an offer. I had signed an offer letter at a Big 4 for TP earlier this fall and have just now received an offer I cannot pass up on. My question is how should I proceed with reneging the offer? Do I call my recruiter or send her an email? Do I have to tell my school? I'm worried about a potential ban from the career centre for reneging so late. Would appreciate any advice.

EDIT: I will be reneging a 2019 SA internship for another SA 2019 internship.

Thanks for feeling like you can comment on someone's decision based on their personal subjective choices.  Plus, if that's what you drew from what I wrote, learn to read. A job doesn't have to be your life, but if you're chasing prestige and not factoring who you are into the decision, it is a huge mistake.

I worked as a commodity trader at a fund you will probably try to exit to if you are successful. I am very familiar with what it entails to be successful, including the hours, and I have seen countless people have varying degrees of success and lack of success.

Sure, 65 hours is less than you will experience in a two year analyst gig, but if you are in it for the long haul, you should really step back and think about this far beyond the hours in the first two years. The transferability of the skill set you build looking at jet fuel working for Traf or analyzing the oats market at Cargill is minimal and the only exit opps are to other commodity trading houses, funds, and maybe a bank (rare to go into a bank from industry). If you are the absolute cream of the crop talent and are successful, you have those options.
