I always wanted to try this for phone interviews. I had just started drinking when someone called for an informational interview once and it was a lot more natural.
I always tended to sacrifice the first child born after the Winter Solstice upon an ebony altar, engraved with the symbol of the cheetah, in order to help me relax, but you know, everyone has their own methods. Have a friend who likes to chill with a game of Madden before interviews, I think that's a little weird but to each his own.
People always say that you should drink before but I don't believe it. If anything I would take adderall or something to make sure your brain is on superhuman mode. Drinking slows down your thought process too much, you would never be able to get the technical questions correct.

Heh I always thought it was the opposite. Finance technical questions are really in the grand scheme of things (in an interview setting anyways)....its the the nerves that will keep you from answering it correctly if anything, not the decreased "brain power"
If you need alcohol to calm your nerves before an interview, I say you ain't ready for it.
i politely disagree. there are some incredibly smart people who are extremely socially awkward. being relaxed (not hammered) calms you and you're much more likely to be liked.
i donno about you guys but i tend to make way more friends when im drunk than when im sober... maybe im just lame though
Hahah yes do this. Just a one hitter, don't get cocky and rip a 3 footer or you will regret it.... o and definetly don't smoke a superblunt with your friends the day before you fly to NY for a Citie capital markets superday...
The entire theory behind having a shot is that you slow your nervousness and anxiousness down a peg and you're mind's not racing. I've never done it for interviews, but in college, I had to sit for a Business Law exam and I had 2-3 shots before the exam and I was calm as a fiddle. I walked out of the exam with an B+. If I didn't have the calm nerves, i would have done much worse. As far as keeping your brain firing on all cylinders, that's a whole different game and I feel you can overlook something when your brain is running like that.
i even did a study (informal of course) this interviewing season. on the interviews that i took 2 shots beforehand, i was able to bullshit with interviewers before and after the interviews and i nailed all the questions, i got superdays for all of them, and then offers. the interviews where i didnt, it was 50/50 getting superdays. and i my goldman superday i messed up horribly (i didnt take my shots). i was nervous for the entire thing, couldnt think straight and bombed it horribly.

had a buddy who would drink two glasses of white wine before any interview. to each his own
ive found pounding some coffee before worked well enough
I tried that, ended up dripping in sweat like shaq on the foul line, it was horrific and had no pocket square to wipe my head with either.

to each his own dude.
Nice touch. If I were the intervieer I'd hire you on the spot (if somehow I knew).
Game Plan:
yes i do this, and it always works.
i even did a study (informal of course) this interviewing season. on the interviews that i took 2 shots beforehand, i was able to bullshit with interviewers before and after the interviews and i nailed all the questions, i got superdays for all of them, and then offers. the interviews where i didnt, it was 50/50 getting superdays. and i my goldman superday i messed up horribly (i didnt take my shots). i was nervous for the entire thing, couldnt think straight and bombed it horribly.
2 shots for superday keeps the rejections away..
