High school senior in need for some general advice and needs some questions sorted out
Hey I'm a high school senior and I will be going to Emory University next year. When applying to Emory ED I didn't factor in difficulty of breaking into IB and I just went by general ranking(top 20 college and yada yada), reputation, and fit. I had pretty solid stats(3.93 UW GPA, 4.55 W GPA(11 AP classes), and 1530 SAT) so probably could have made it to a target but I appreciate the opportunity to go here. So anyway for good or bad I will be going there next year. My question is if I want to break into a BB what should I do. I know Emory is considered like a low semi-target- strong nontarget so what would I have to do to break in from here. I'm generally clueless and so some detailed advice would be helpful like what do people do to stand out. I'm personally not 100% sure about finance but if I do choose to go down this path I want to know what I should do. Any insider information will be helpful. Also when people say that Emory is a low semi-strong non are they referring to New York or just in general. I personally am no big fan of NYC so I don't mind being really anywhere in the US. So would I have a shot at a BB or MBB in the south? What would I have to do to get there? Also I had a question about what major I should pursue. I'm currently considering either Accounting+Finance or Finance+QSS(essentially Emory's name for Applied Data Science). I believe QSS will be much more quantitatively enriching but I guess it will be harder to get a higher GPA and I'm not really sure if a lot of those skills would be useful for a career in finance although it may open up possibilities to work in a hedge fund but I'm not really sure. I'm also scared that if I pursue QSS then I won't be able to take as many accounting courses which I've heard are really important. Also what's the hype about being in NYC like the pay isn't that much higher and lifestyle is much more cramped then why do people like it so much? I have nothing against NYC(I was born there) but is there some career advantage I would get by being in NYC over say a southern place? Like should I be aiming for NYC? Also how do I network like what does that entail. What am I supposed to do when networking and how do I go about it. Essentially I don't really know what networking means. Anyway thanks for reading this lengthy post and I would appreciate any help.
Dude - just enjoy college and the rest will work out. I didn’t get into banking until after college. Just enjoy the experience and work hard.
get good grades in college, try to get into some leadership positions, NETWORK PLEASE, workout, and have fun. It will come if you're serious and persistent.
This may be a stupid question but how do I network. What does networking entail and how do I those things? Like how would I get in contact with a network from my school. I'm sorry but I don't exactly know what networking means in terms of Finance

Find alumni who work where you want. Set up coffee chats, try and make a "connection". Rinse and repeat.
You will be fine for MBB and top banks in the south. Just crush school.
Is a 3.7 considered reasonably good? Or would I have to be higher than that?
You’ll want higher if you’re trying to get out of the south. But should be fine in the area — Emory is a solid school.
