HL SD SA’27

Have HL SD very soon for NYC office for corp fin and was wondering if anyone has gone through it already and what to expect. I’m expecting it to be like 3 round 1 interviews basically but with in-depth technicals.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here’s what you need to know about preparing for interviews like the one at HL SD for NYC Corporate Finance:

  1. Technical Preparation:

    • Expect in-depth technical questions. These could range from fundamental concepts like WACC, DCF, and financial statement analysis to more advanced topics like LBO modeling or M&A scenarios.
    • Resources like the WSO IB Interview Course (with 7,548 questions across 469 IBs) and guides such as Rosenbaum & Pearl’s M&A-focused material are highly recommended for preparation.
  2. Behavioral Questions:

    • Be ready to articulate your story clearly and concisely. Practice responses to common questions like "Walk me through your resume" or "Why investment banking?"
    • Make your answers unique by tying them to personal anecdotes or experiences relevant to corporate finance.
  3. Mock Interviews:

    • Practice is key. Conduct mock interviews with peers or mentors to refine your delivery and ensure you don’t sound overly rehearsed. Use a timer to simulate real interview conditions.
  4. Structure of the Process:

    • If it’s structured like typical superdays, you might face three rounds of interviews. These could include a mix of technical, behavioral, and possibly case-based questions. Be prepared for a rigorous evaluation of both your technical knowledge and cultural fit.
  5. Additional Tips:

    • Review financial modeling basics, especially if the role involves corporate finance. The WSO Elite Modeling Package offers courses on DCF, M&A, and LBO modeling that could be beneficial.
    • Stay calm and confident. Even if the technicals are challenging, interviewers often assess how you approach problems under pressure.

Good luck with your HL SD interview!
