Hong Kong travel advice
Hey guys,
I recently booked a trip for post graduation this May. I'm going to be in Hong Kong for four days by myself. I know there is a HK presence on this board and I was wondering if anyone has any tips/advice on hostels to stay and things to do and see while I'm in the city for four days.
I really appreciate the help.
HK is so compact, and the MTR is so convenient, that you can stay anywhere on HK island or Tsim Sha Tsui in Kowloon, and you'll be able to get everywhere pretty easily. Be prepared though that hotels, and everything really, is super expensive. Also doesn't help that the HKD is pegged to the USD, which is really strong right now. As far as things to do, I think it's mainly all the tourist stuff which you can find on google (Victoria Peak, ferry harbour tour, Big Buddha, Lan Kwai Fong, Causeway Bay, etc). I'd also check out Chungking Mansion if you want cheap ethnic (i.e. not Chinese) food. And for going to Victoria Peak, I'd either buy the ticket online in advance or just take a taxi, so you don't have to wait in line for the train (it can take hours on the weekends). Oh and of course make sure you check out the "nightclubs" in Wan Chai (that's the redlight district, not that I have any personal experience of course).
I stayed in a hostel near the Causeway Bay MTR stop, right next to Victoria Park. I was very pleased with the area and it's accessibility. Definitely visit the big Buddha and also the open markets in various locations.
