How do freshmen find remote Search Fund internships for the summer?

Hi everyone,

Hope you’re doing well. I’m a first-year student and I’m trying to find a remote Search Fund internship for this upcoming summer, but I’m honestly not sure how to approach the process.

My biggest question is: how do people actually find Search Funds to reach out to in the first place? Is there a reliable place to find a list of firms so I can start cold emailing, or is it mostly networking and referrals?

I’m already using Searchfunder, but it feels like the listed internships get flooded with applicants, so I’m hoping to be more proactive by identifying firms directly and sending cold emails to each fund.

Thanks so much in advance. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!

been many years but i used searchfunder like u alr are but i remember it being a grind session fs. dont know how much more comp its gotten in the last 3 years but try to tailor as annoying as that may be to each and every fund

Axial is another good site. Also look for boutiques in your city, you’ll likely be able to find a few small 10-person or less IB and PE shops that would willingly take an unpaid intern and the experience will be much more real and impactful, both from a resume and actual prep for future internships perspective
