How do you check work??

I’m a first year and I keep dropping the ball on attention to detail... spell check, wrong numbers, etc but I check my work. How do you guys check your work? I flip through each page and make sure everything is where it needs to be. Do you keep it in ppt or pdf?

Easier to check when you can print, but obviously with WFH that makes it tougher. I would make a checklist that you complete each time before delivering work. Focus on it being a useful tool rather than a nuisance. A lot of people in finance are intelligent (or think they are) causing this infallibility complex, driving these mistakes. Just make it a habit to really take the time to double check and look over things. Have enough pride in the work that you’ve done to not want silly mistakes to undermine the overall product.

Print your work, take a 5-15m break, go outside, walk around whatever but step away from the desk. Then get a marker, and tick every box, sentence, logo, etc once it's checked. If it's a fat mark-up, print it as well and colour it with your marker too once it's turned. Nothing upsets people more than non-implemented mark-up, even more so than typos. Then you can send it over. Everyone has their own routine but this helped me a lot to avoid unnecessary f*ck-ups.

Once you get to v69 of a document, you have seen it so often that you can't see the mistakes anymore because your mind knows already what's in the document.

ASAP almost never means under 10 minutes. The best you can do is put your laptop to sleep, get up from your desk and walk around/stretch for 10 minutes then sit back down and review. As you do more reps you’ll make less mistakes - if you keep making the ~same~ mistakes each time you aren’t being mindful enough. Write down the mistakes you made each time and use that as a reference list for future tasks.
