How does the conversation usually go when you don't get a return offer?

So I was a summer analyst at a BB this past summer and I received a return offer. I was pretty excited about this because I spent a lot of the summer stressing out about if I was good enough or not. When I got the offer, it was a really pleasant conversation. A few people in my group, however, didn't get return offers, but I never really spoke to them about how the conversation went because I didn't wanna be too intrusive.

Does anybody have experience with this? Do they just walk you into the conference room and say that they enjoyed having you and never mention a return offer? Or do they list off all of your fuck ups and tell you that you aren't getting an offer? Just curious.

at my bank, they had a Zoom with one of the hiring people (maybe an associate/VP/MD) and someone from HR. the HR person said that I wouldn't be getting a return offer and one of the team members involved with recruiting/hiring said some things about it being a tough decision yadda yadda. I asked for feedback and they gave me some vague feedback, likely vague bc HR was there. I then proceeded to get wasted later that night.

Got waitlisted at the end of my internship. Everyone had an end of internship zoom scheduled. I'd imagine pre-covid it was in person. There wasn't anyone from HR on, just the summer staffer and the group head. Said I was waitlisted, the usual capacity problems vague bs. Reached out a week later for more detailed feedback and still got vague bs. Ended up getting off the waitlist a month later but switched groups since they obviously didn't want me - in a much better group so it worked out but yeah not a fun conversation
