How exactly do I Cold Call?
Found some companies located in the downtown district of my city. All they have is a phone number listed.
Not sure who will be answering the phone, but what exactly do I say to whoever picks up?
Im a junior in college, interested in X. I was wondering what type of opportunities do you have at your company?
how does that sound
I did a search and most of the threads are about cold calling a banker, associate, VP, etc. But im not sure what to do when I call a number listed on the companies contact form
Call them up and ask for graduate recruitment, then go into your speech is what I'd guess. Having never cold-called myself I cannot speak from experience, and am also interested!
"Hi, my name is X from College Y and I'm very interested in Z. I was wondering if you could direct me to somebody that could tell me a bit more about the firm and the industry." Then, when you get talking with the person, end it by asking about possible opps.
or
"Hi. CEO. Now."
1.) Figure out what you're interested in: A.) Research- looking at balance sheets, figuring out how much a company is worth. B.) Banking- producing reports, merging companies, playing monopoly with real buildings. C.) Trading- making markets on different financial products.
D.) Risk Management- telling traders what they're not allowed to do and being ready to embarass them out of a position by asking a few simple what-if questions about certain scenarios playing out. E.) Quant Analysis- developing pricing models for different securities, developing trading strategies, methods for historical analysis.
Don't know what you want to do?
D & E, along with C to some extent are perfect for quantitative majors- Engineering, Physics, Math. Risk Management is particularly good for folks who always played defense in sports. Trading is good for people who are very decisive and can make decisions quickly and were on offense. Research is often a good fit for accy majors; banking is often good for people who like to work crazy hours.
2.) Find folks with these job descriptions on linkedin.
3.) Ideally, email or message them on LinkedIn. If you MUST call, you can probably reach them through the corporate switchboard for their firm. Call traders, quants, and risk managers ideally around 8:30 AM Eastern for best results.
Hey man, I would say build a relationship with him first and be like hello sir I really want to learn about banking and was wondering how you became successful in this industry.
Then you call him next time with this sales strat (which I was taught) F.O.R.M (ask him about his Family, how is Occupation is, and then what he likes for Recreation, then finally end it with your Message)
I got my internship this way.
Good Luck man.
"Hi Tiffany, is the MD in yet? No? Nvr mind. You know I called just to speak with you."
^^^^^ hahah wall street warriors ftw^^^^^ what happened to the 3rd season?
