How high is your GPA?

How important is GPA in landing a position at a bulge-bracket firm? What is I know all the materials that they ask me and knock down the interview better than anyone else. How high is your GPA just so everyone gets a clear understanding of where they stand.

Oh, I'm also selling my copies of the Wall Street Prep and the Wall Street Program. If anyone is interested, PM me.

Wall Street Program = Financial Modeling/Forecasting & Valuation Program

There have been many discussions on this board about GPA's. Search

...what?

"How high is your GPA just so everyone gets a clear understanding of where they stand."

This is just an online forum. Not every internship/job applicant posts here so it will not help. Even if you get a list of GPA's of succesfull applicants (which there is already a thread on), GPA doesn't represent the full package.

1.2 art-history major. Got offers from every BB to start as an associate :).

JK, GPA is a threshold that is offset by everything else on your resume. It plays literally no part in the actual interview. If it were down to two people, the only thing your GPA might do is affect how the interview perceives your overall persona (i.e. you can probabaly name off a few 3.95+ GPA students and you probably give them the benefit of the doubt that they're smart based solely on their GPA). That said, the other stuff matters more once you land your 1st round.

In the US GPA system, what GPA would generally be considered top 10%? And what GPA would generally be considered top 50%?

I don't know. But the bastards at NYU changed the latin honors system to class-rank based from cumulative GPA based, so now I have to be in the top 15% of the class to be considered for magna cum laude. The threshold used to be a 3.700. Grr.

Interesting...

I graduated in the top 10% (v. good european uni) and yet I don't get any latin honours. But I guess in the US latin honours are pretty common, right? Like, even people with a 3.5 would get some kind of latin honours at many schools, if I'm not mistaken.

Well up until this year, cum laude at NYU used to be a 3.50.
