How to explain how I found contact info?

What is the best way to state how you found someone's contact information in a cold-email? I've been finding people on my university's LinkedIn Alumni database, then finding their e-mail on their company website. How should I exactly explain this in an e-mail that doesn't come off as creepy?

LinkedIn is a networking platform, so I think it's expected (and not too weird) for you to do some research before contacting them if you have no prior connection. I'd just mention you came across their profile and noticed they were an alum, so you wanted to reach out. That's what I've done, and I don't think it's negatively affected my response rate or led to awkward calls.

You don't necessarly need to say in your email where you find their contact details. People usually don't care how you find them. I you are interesting and they want to talk to you, they will, no matter how you reached to them.

Don't explain it the email - that is super weird. If it ever comes up (which it probably won't) just say something along the lines of finding it online. Most sell-side firms have their employees email available on the site anyways.
