how to get an offer after summer internship?

I will be joining a BB IBD this summer. What kind of projects do summer interns do anyway and what are the hours like? How fierce is the competition among interns to get a full time offer? and most importantly, what exactly should I do to GUARANTEE that I receive an offer at the end?

Please share your experience, and i really appreciate this!

You'll be treated as a real analyst so the hours will be longer than normal FT analyst hours. Also get used to pointless but necessary face time. Get ready to do lots of comps, pitches, internal memos and maybe some modeling.

The banks, in general, want to fill their FT class with interns so they will look to give out offers to you guys. You can't do anything to guarantee an offer, because I have seen qualified interns not get offers because they weren't a good "fit" for the group/office. Do your work, do it well and on time, and try to get along analysts and it should work out (ie, if an analyst invites you to a bar, don't say no and go hang out in yr apt by yourself).

Of course it depends on the bank, but probably won't be doing a lot of comps, pitches and modeling. You will do a lot of PIBs, company profiles, research, drafting internal memos, printing out and distributing weekly/daily news runs, thing like that.

I agree there's not way to 100% guarantee yourself an offer, but if you work hard, ask intelligent questions, take initiative, are willing to learn, have the right attitude and convince them that this job is your NUMBER ONE priority in life, you should be fine.

You will be doing comps and lots of them. I guarantee you that.

by this do you mean actually building a comp from scratch or just spreading comps?

im interested in knowing whether interns will get a much more "analytical" role at certain banks and "administrative" roles at other banks... or is it pretty similar across the board?

Spread comps on templates, but building one from scratch is not difficult at all, just more time-consuming. if you have the time, you should build from scratch.

your role will depend on how you perform early on. if you do consistent, solid work, you might get more responsibility.

My motto during my summer was to work like a slave and always have a good attitude. Beg for them to ruin your weekend with work and thank them when they do. A good attitude will go a long way (as will checking over your work before you give it in). Put in hard work, ask questions, double check all your shit and what not and you should be good to go.
