How true is Industry

So I finished watching Industry and was wondering how true it is. As in is the show reflective of the culture in bulge bracket shops?? I know it’s a show so to an extent it must have been exaggerated but maybe what parts were true??

The sex, drugs and toxic culture seems like the truth but not sure. Would love to hear the inside opinion.

Very true.

Every day i do coke in the bathroom.

I often have sex with both girls and guys after work with whom I work with. Very common for whole office to be gender fluid and jerk each other off after the trading day ends.

My analyst has only 1 year experience but manages our largest client, send illegal trade orders, and falsified her resume/transcript.

Tons of sexual harassment in office, no one cares.

An analyst dies in the bathroom stall once a year.

Pretty much a documentary.

This made me cackle.

Prospects don't realise how dull and mundane IB office culture is. Hopefully when AI automate all the tedious work the culture can go back to drugs, money & sex (one can dream)

Sorry forgot to mention.  My same sex client fondled me during a client dinner.  No big deal..it's wallstreet!

In all seriousness the part industry really makes me laugh is how aggressive and dramatic all the in office conversations and politics are.   Real life everyone is pretty submissive, passive aggressive, and does most their dirty work through outlook.  True in office confrontations and terse conversations are honestly pretty rare, and certainly never in front of others.  And most people are too checked out to really scheme and politik too much(at least at my BB).

It’s definitely exaggerated. I watched season 1 with my parents and the broad strokes are fairly close though. They made it more exciting and interesting for TV (hence the lack of IBD screen time since it would be boring to watch) but I would say the main themes of high stress, prestige whoring, and junior analysts being treated like monkeys was fairly accurate. All the partying is basically if they took the most social banker and had everyone go out like him. It’s just not realistic. I used to go out with my analyst class but realistically we were just having some beers and we didn’t have a coke plug or fuck each other.
