How useful are iPads for work. Especially ones with the detachable keyboard
Any of y’all use iPads for work? Wondering about the functionality/additional value-add they bring as a supplement to your main laptop. Especially if paired with a detachable keyboard
Def useful!
Can review CIMs on the iPad in bed and mark up with your Apple Pencil
Very helpful - how about for excel, or is that a hard no?
lmao @ excel on an iPad; it's only useful for reviewing/marking up PDF outputs
Are there any compliance issues with sending confidential materials to your external ipad or other device if it’s not provided to you by the firm?
Yes there are compliance issues sending work stuff to your personal email. What you'll have to do is enlist your iPad with your firm's security platform and then you can access your work apps on your iPad.
Def makes sense, what are the typical work-related tasks you like to do on the iPad that you find productive
I don't use my iPad for work related. Others will use it for Zoom meetings so Zoom doesn't take up bandwidth on their laptops and it is nice for marking up a document. The key here is you probably won't be able to use either when you are an Analyst. You'll be expected to screenshare anything if you are the most junior which which is easier to do on your work laptop. You won't be marking up documents for somebody else to turn comments since you'll be the one turning comments. More value to your work if you are VP or Associate. I use my iPad to stream movies, TV shows, etc while I am working, also a good device for accessing your personal email since you can't on a work laptop.
Served as a better-than-anticipated substitute for printing-and-tying out during WFH. Super handy even now that we're back to to normal.
Only thing I'd do different - I'd go with the oversized iPad (rather than the 8.5 x 11 version). Thought it would be annoyingly big but that's not really the case.
Are you referring to the iPad and iPad Air (iPad mini is the smallest one with the dimensions you gave) - https://www.apple.com/ipad/
Also why was it useful for printing? Sounds like you recommend also getting it along with the keyboard
I was saying that it was a solid substitute in lieu of printing during WFH - I don't have access to several $10k printers in my apartment vs status quo working out of the office during pre-covid (where I print out a copy of the deck in the office, tie it out, and toss in the garbage when I'm done).
Going through the physical act of tying numbers / marking off comments from seniors dramatically lowers the risk of sending up busted numbers or unturned comments to VP/D/MD.
Use with pencil. Won’t lose any notes again
Why not just buy the keyboard, it seems expensive to drop $99 for it when the keyboard is just $60 more with alot more functionality than the pencil
Don’t pay full price for the pencil. Found mine for $80
