HS Student Internship After Graduation

Pls read this before you roast me in the comments

Yes, I’m a tool. Yes, I’m a try hard. Yes, I need to get laid more. Yes, I need to get high more.

I’m currently a hs senior from CA. I’m interested in pursuing a career in finance, but not IB specifically. I’m looking to secure an internship this summer (a little late on the timeline, ik) so I can dip my toe into the field before my first year of college. I wanna know if I even enjoy the industry before I dedicate my freshman year to applying to highly selective finance RSOs. Background info about myself: I had a 3.9, 1580, and will attend Uchicago next year for econ/cs

With all that being said, what is your experience with finance internships before college? I know that the general sentiment is to focus on high school and getting into a good target, but seeing I’ve got that part covered, I’m looking towards the future now. What are some possible subsets of the finance industry that may be more receptive to taking on a hs graduate intern? (MM IB, PWM ?)

Current junior uchicago. It is possible. I'm from new york and worked in a finance internship as a high school graduate. You will need to find a program that matches you with a company as companies do not directly hire highschool graduates (because we are essentially useless besides basic admin tasks). Companies enroll in these programs as a sort of charity that gives them a good rep in a way. However, these programs will usually only target low income and underrepresented minorities. NYC has a company/program called Futures and Options which can get you internships at bulge brackets and EB like MS, JPM, BOA, Evercore etc. As I said before, you wont be learning about modelling/doing actual good work and highly doubt you'll be put in a front office position since they wont have time to deal with a high schooler but you will be learning about the industry as a whole and its a good for shadowing.

Not really sure about CA but there should be some program similar there. Just look for it.

Damn, sucks to see ill be going against kids like this but think small . Without connections I doubt your getting a PWM internship perhaps try audit for a small shop around you and any tips for scoring that high on the SAT?I for example got some experience at a merchant bank and consulting firm both quite small and the consulting firm was through a connection?

Edit :I just saw you want to something in real estate I know nothing about that.

Thanks for the tips. As for the SAT, try out 1600.io. It’s the best resource and I would contribute atleast 100 points of my sat score to that platform. If you’re still in hs, I wouldn’t spend much time studying for the sat once you’re over 1500 tbh. Especially considering all the test optional schools, and the lower emphasis placed on test scores, there’s a lot of better uses of your time.

okay thanks for that .I think the SAT is still very important because GPA in my opinion is not a good way to determine how prepared one is for college cause the grading systems differ for schools I could be doing integration while someone's literally trynna figure out 1+1 and because they have a higher gpa they have a better chance I don't see how its fair but I guess its life.
