I feel horrible about lateraling

I am an analyst in a bad/niche group at a mid tier EB and looking to lateral to a top group on the street at a BB. Is it the right decision? Absolutely. But I feel horrible about leaving and I really love the juniors in my team. Has anyone ever been in this spot?

What is this niche group? What even is a bad EB?

I know people from niche groups at MOE who still got looks from Apollo, also note that BBs typically pay materially less than EBs.

Unless your group is known to never touch the model / is notoriously un-technical and you’re certain the top BB will set you up better for PE recruiting, maybe look to lateral internally?

I will come back to say though, never stay because of your colleagues - you should always look out for #1, but also, in this industry in particular, you have no idea how long your cohort will be around.

People get fired and leave all the time. Your group may look entirely different next year vs. today, and then you will regret not doing what is best for you.

There is no other reason besides bing close with my colleagues to not lateral. Like not one other reason probably.
