IB Recruiting has me depressed
Full-time recruiting has resulted in me feeling so hopeless and defeated to an extreme I have never experienced in my life. I have interviews coming up, but I've been told "no" so many times after spending countless hours preparing, I cannot even bring myself to prepare anymore. I guess I am just not cut out.
With that attitude, maybe you’re right. Most of us in the industry faced rejection several times before being successful.
Its a numbers game for real. If you go mad applying you will eventually land one
i had 2.4 gpa freshman year (have my reasons) I go to a nontarget , right now my gpa is 3.2, I worked my ass off, i had 12 rejections (middle market, European, japanense banks) , and than recently landed an offer at BB which i never thought was possible,
hard work is what you need to do
Lmao 12, it's atleast 200 rejections for non-targets like us. And I've read countless times here on forum that people from Non-target cold emailed or applied to a bare minimum 100's of firms before they got their offer.
i mean if i am talkin about pure IB postion yes i had 12-13 rejections, number one because i was too late to the process, and number two i only applied for foreign banks, bnp paribas, hsbc, nomura, mizuho, smbc etc. I have sent over 700 cold emails over the past year and half, its just grinding and things will eventually work out.
It’s a totally random drawing sometimes.
Colleges that accepted me: Upenn, Dartmouth, Northwestern
Colleges that rejected me: Hopkins, Duke, Georgetown
Banks that have given me offers over my career: Goldman, MS, BofA, JPM, RBS, Lazard
Banks that rejected me over the years: Raymond James, BNP, Credit Ag, Teneo, Greenhill, Rabbobank, Morgan Keegan, Mizuho
The “crappier” colleges and banks wanted nothing to do with me, and the more coveted places gave me a chance.
I got rejected without an interview at a tiny no-name boutique in California the week before I got an offer at GS/MS/JPM so keep your head up
In the same boat but gotta keep going and moving on. Have you thought about regional offices or boutiques?
Hit the weight room, prepare harder, and keep interviewing. But mainly, shift your mindset to a more positive one.
Any tips for how to be articulate yourself in an interview. I'm usually very articulate, but for some reason, whenever I'm in an interview, all I do is trip over my words :/
Best advice I could give you for networking is to let the other person speak. Try to make the conversation an interaction where the professional does the large majority of talking. It could be about their life, college, high school, car, dog, fucking anything they bring up. People think calls go better when they are able to talk about themselves for most of the call. Especially if you're having difficultly tripping on words, speaking, etc, this will be mighty helpful
Don't sell yourself short - be proud of your experience and the value-add you're illustrating. Also, treat every interview as a conversation instead of a session to be grilled. You'll be more relaxed and come across as more genuine.
IB has me depressed if it makes you feel better. Might be better off not going into the industry.
It's true mate... Just keep grinding and applying
PM me.
If it's this easy for you to get depressed then you have a lot of growing up to do. Life is full of challenges.Get up each day, show up and put your best effort. If it's meant to be, it'll work out. All you need is ONE chance.
Be confident and don’t sell yourself short. Regroup and forge ahead
